In a plot twist straight out of a wrestling soap opera with a splash of Hollywood action flick, AEW’s Kyle Fletcher apparently believes he’s gone full supervillain. For weeks, he thought he’d successfully written the final chapter on his feud with Will Ospreay after their showdown at WrestleDream, a match where Fletcher did everything short of ordering a tombstone. A swift jab to the back of the head with a screwdriver and a brutal Tiger Driver usually send most people packing, but Ospreay, being anything but ordinary, popped back up faster than the horror movie villain who refuses to stay down.
Last night, Ospreay made his triumphant return on “AEW Dynamite,” swooping in like an action hero to rescue Ricochet, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Mark Davis from Fletcher and his henchmen in the Don Callis Family—Brian Cage and Lance Archer. Think Ocean’s Eleven, but instead of stealing casinos, it’s a smackdown of epic proportions.
Backstage, the teams fired up a post-match smack-talk fest, with Ospreay’s crew—Ospreay, Hobbs, Ricochet, and Davis—laying down the law. But the Callis Family wasn’t about to back down. Brian Cage and Lance Archer zeroed in on Hobbs, while Takeshita, somewhere in the background, shot a menacing warning in Ricochet and Adam Cole’s direction. Next week, Takeshita and Cole are set to face off on Dynamite in what promises to be a match filled with grudges, smack talk, and, if history is any indicator, a couple of misplaced screwdrivers.
The mic then passed to Fletcher, who had some spicy words for his former Aussie Open partner, Mark Davis, and his nemesis, Ospreay. “Everybody wants a piece of the family,” Fletcher growled, embodying the self-assurance of a B-movie antagonist. “That’s the price of success; you make enemies along the way. And we’ve made a lot of them, clearly.”
Turning his attention to Davis, Fletcher snarled, “You want to get involved in our business, in my business? I told you to pick a side, and you’ve made it very clear which side you are on.” Then, with all the gravitas of a daytime drama villain, Fletcher looked straight into the camera and unleashed the line of the night: “And Will Ospreay… you should’ve stayed dead.”
In Fletcher’s mind, AEW was better off without Ospreay, and he’s dead-set (pun intended) on making AEW his personal playground. “I’m going to make sure the future of AEW is all about me,” he promised, channeling his inner Bond villain. “I will surpass you. I promise.”
With tensions high and grudges freshly renewed, AEW’s next “Dynamite” is shaping up to be a showdown that’ll keep fans on the edge of their seats—or at least keep the EMTs on standby.
