Well, folks, WWE’s latest venture into indie wrestling talent development, the WWE ID program, is already poised to unveil its first victim—uh, I mean, participant—this weekend at Reality of Wrestling’s “Super Sunday” extravaganza. Picture it: a room full of hopeful wrestlers, all wondering if they’ll be the chosen one to get that golden WWE ID status. It’s like wrestling’s own episode of The Bachelor, but with more headlocks and fewer roses.
On Tuesday, WWE’s new WWE ID account retweeted ROW’s announcement about the event, promising fans that they’ll soon know the identity of the very first “independent talent” to be blessed with this groundbreaking WWE title, presumably after some rigorous 50-point background check by Triple H himself.
Who’s Up for the Crown?
So far, Reality of Wrestling’s Super Sunday has a stacked card, with matches like former MLW star Richard Holliday taking on Ryan Davidson for his Texas Championship (cue the intense, regional pride!), Ice Williams clashing with Cam Cole, and Will Allday teaming up with NXT tough guys Hank and Tank, who sound more like a heavy-duty moving company than wrestling stars.
There’s also a slew of other guest stars on the event poster, including TNA’s Joe Hendry and Moose, but don’t get excited—they’re allegedly not eligible for the WWE ID pick. They’re apparently there to serve as the indie wrestling equivalent of fireworks: flashy, impressive, but ultimately just filling time until the big reveal.
A “New Kind of Development” – But What’s in It for Us?
WWE is leaning hard into the “next big thing” narrative here, promising that whoever receives the ID badge of honor will be treated to more camera angles than a Real Housewives reunion. According to WWE’s announcement, the program will give fans behind-the-scenes glimpses and other exclusive footage of these blessed ID holders as they continue wrestling in the indies. In other words, if you’ve ever wanted to see what it’s like to cut a promo from the back of a high school gym, your wish is granted.
So, who’s it going to be? Is the chosen wrestler already on the ROW roster, or is there a mystery superstar waiting to be unveiled, like a masked luchador on The Masked Wrestler (not a real show… yet)? Fans will have to wait until Sunday to find out.
