Folks, it looks like AEW is ready to powerbomb its current video game developer out of the ring. According to a new report, AEW is strongly considering severing ties with Yuke’s, the company behind the somewhat glitchy “AEW Fight Forever” game. While the game had the promise of years of downloadable content (DLC), multiple sources suggest that AEW could be shopping for a new development partner after a rough experience with the initial release.

Now, let me tell you, this whole thing sounds messy. “Fight Forever” dropped in June 2023, and though it showed promise, it came with more bugs than a poorly attended backyard barbecue. And apparently, it wasn’t just the game itself causing drama—there were also rumors of friction between AEW’s very own Kenny Omega and the Yuke’s team. The game was also over budget, making it a very expensive headache.

But here’s the kicker—AEW owns the rights to the game’s build, meaning they could take the skeleton of “Fight Forever” and hand it off to another developer, without starting from scratch. Smart move. Word on the street is that AEW has put out “feelers” to larger game developers to gauge interest in continuing the wrestling game tradition, but there’s also been buzz about potentially moving away from console games entirely and focusing on mobile. A bold play.

As of now, nothing’s set in stone. The last update to the game came in July 2023, which added Jay White, new moves, and a shiny new tournament mode. But no further DLC has been announced, meaning big names like AEW Continental Champion Will Ospreay, TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, and Adam Copeland are still MIA in the game.

So, where does this leave AEW’s video game future? That’s still up in the air, folks, but one thing’s for sure—if they do switch partners, we can all hope for a smoother ride next time around. Stay tuned.
