Folks, gather ‘round for some Grade-A wrestling tea, because Megan Thee Stallion just made waves in the squared circle, and it’s not just with her music. WWE SmackDown fans can now vibe to Megan’s latest single, “Neva Play,” every Friday night on USA Network, but this sizzling deal has reportedly thrown a wrench into plans she had with another wrestling giant—All Elite Wrestling’s TBS Champion, Mercedes Mone. And let me tell you, this story’s got more twists than a tag team match.

According to PWInsider, there were “expectations” that Megan and Mone (two megastars, mind you) would link up in AEW, not WWE! The pair first hit it off back in Japan at the annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2021, bonding over their shared love of anime and badassery. From there, conversations between their managers started rolling, with big plans for Megan to either hit the AEW ring or at least make an appearance alongside Mone. Mone herself even hinted at the possibility publicly, dropping Megan’s name in the run-up to All In London this past August.

But here’s where the plot thickens. While AEW’s Mercedes Mone was daydreaming about teaming up with Thee Stallion in her corner, WWE swooped in and locked down Megan’s song for SmackDown. “Neva Play,” featuring K-pop sensation RM of BTS fame, was made the official theme song for the blue brand, catching Mone and her AEW circle completely off guard. And you know what they say: where there’s surprise, there’s drama. PWInsider reports that while Mone’s potential partnership with Megan isn’t totally dead, WWE’s big move to feature her song every week didn’t exactly help things.

Now, could we still see Megan Thee Stallion neva play by the rules and team up with Mercedes Mone in AEW, even after this WWE curveball? Maybe, but let’s just say it’s about as likely as a no-disqualification match ending in a handshake. As the report wisely noted, the WWE deal certainly threw some cold water on the idea.

So, wrestling fans, while Megan’s got SmackDown bouncing to her beats, Mercedes Mone might need to find a new rap partner. Stay tuned for more drama, because in the world of wrestling, anything can happen—and usually does.
