Well folks, it looks like Gable Steveson’s journey from the squared circle to the gridiron has hit a roadblock the size of a WWE ring post! The Olympic gold medalist and NCAA wrestling sensation—who, let’s be honest, had WWE fans scratching their heads more than cheering—just couldn’t catch a break. First, WWE showed him the door, and now, after an even shorter stint with the Buffalo Bills, he’s been handed a one-way ticket out of the NFL.

On Tuesday afternoon, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, who’s got the scoop on every roster shuffle, broke the news on X (formerly known as Twitter, but we don’t call it that anymore). The Bills, apparently tired of Gable’s wrestling moves not translating to tackles, have decided to waive him. Translation? He won’t be playing with the big boys on the 52-man roster this season. But hey, all hope is not lost! Garafolo hinted that Gable might be picked up as a “developmental prospect,” which is just a fancy way of saying, “maybe next time, champ.”

In a plot twist that could only happen in the world of sports entertainment, Gable was signed by the Bills mere weeks after WWE cut him loose. They tried him out as a defensive end, possibly hoping he could suplex a quarterback or two. But alas, his preseason performance was about as exciting as a headlock that goes on too long. One measly tackle and no sacks? Even in wrestling, that’s a losing record!

This latest release is just the cherry on top of what’s been a summer of sour grapes for the Steveson brothers. Gable’s brother, Bobby Steveson—who the world knew as Damon Kemp in WWE NXT—was also given the boot by WWE back in July. Maybe the family should consider a new line of work? Like anything but wrestling and football.
