Dave Meltzer, wrestling’s perennial news oracle, has deemed the recent U.S. presidential election a “win-win” for former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. With Donald Trump securing a return to the Oval Office, Meltzer claims McMahon now finds himself in a political paradise, thanks to his old friend’s new title. McMahon, who resigned from WWE and TKO earlier this year amid serious legal woes, may have found a powerful ally in his one-time WrestleMania rival turned Commander-in-Chief.
According to Meltzer’s latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter breakdown, the new administration is likely to be “hot on the idea” of dialing down the DOJ’s focus on McMahon, whose legal saga began with the high-profile lawsuit filed by Janel Grant. This suit, currently on hold pending further investigation, still looms over McMahon, but Meltzer hints Trump’s presidency could lighten the load considerably.
Of course, it’s worth noting the McMahon-Trump friendship goes back decades. The pair have shared spotlight moments from the WWE ring to high-stakes fundraising, where Linda McMahon played an especially visible role. Dubbed a key “donor-ally,” Linda reportedly contributed at least $10,814,000 to Trump’s campaign efforts, all while remaining front and center at Mar-a-Lago on election night.
Meltzer’s speculative report goes further, suggesting the Trump connection could offer similar “legal weatherproofing” to UFC’s Dana White. However, he’s quick to add that while some heat might cool off, Trump’s return is unlikely to have much bearing on Grant’s civil suit or the separate ring boys lawsuit recently filed against Vince and Linda McMahon.
As Meltzer puts it, Trump’s victory is “as close as you can get to a legal lifeline” for McMahon. Whether it’ll be enough to turn Vince’s rocky 2024 around remains to be seen.
