The Motor City Machine Guns (MCMG)—the duo that made “Detroit-style” wrestling a thing—have officially signed with WWE, and they’re wasting no time. Not only have they joined the company, but they’re already WWE Tag Team Champions, making this the fastest rise to gold since that time Vince tried speed-dialing Goldberg’s booking agent.

According to wrestling’s answer to Wikipedia with an opinion, Dave Meltzer, WWE’s interest in the MCMG was more than just warm; it was flaming-hot pizza-level. “WWE is the one that made the better offer,” Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio, speculating that it was either “more money or a better storyline,” or as some would say, literally the only two reasons anyone joins WWE.

WWE’s pitch apparently had the right mix of dollar signs and drama, while AEW’s was…less convincing. “I didn’t get the impression AEW was all that serious,” Meltzer shrugged. AEW boss Tony Khan may have been too busy handing out offers like candy at Halloween—hello, Ricochet, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley—but the Guns wanted the gold, and WWE was happy to pave the way.

So, with all the speed of an Indy 500 pit stop, Sabin and Shelley jumped straight to the top, dethroning The Bloodline’s Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga. That’s right—WWE not only gave MCMG the spotlight, but also a tag title match in their third match. The Guns pulled off double duty and finished the night as champs, which, for those who follow WWE’s usual trajectory, is about as rare as a clean finish in a Hell in a Cell match.
