In a match that could only be described as a soap opera wrapped in a wrestling ring, Ethan Page retained his NXT Championship at WWE NXT No Mercy, but not without some serious drama. Facing off against TNA’s viral sensation Joe Hendry, Page’s title defense had more twists than a pretzel factory on overdrive. Adding to the chaos was the presence of special guest referee and former NXT Champion Trick Williams, who, let’s just say, had a very hands-on approach to officiating.

The match was a nail-biter from start to finish, with near-falls that had the audience on the edge of their seats and on the verge of filing a complaint for emotional whiplash. Hendry, usually known for his infectious charisma and catchy entrance themes, got a little less jovial when Williams refused to count his apparent victory, citing Page’s foot under the rope. Let’s just say, Hendry’s mood soured faster than milk left out in the sun.

In the ensuing chaos, Page, ever the opportunist (and let’s be honest, “All Ego” isn’t just a nickname), managed to exploit the situation. He bundled Hendry and Williams into each other like a collision you see coming but can’t stop. With bodies flying and refs multiplying like rabbits, Page landed a DDT on the NXT title belt. But just when it looked like he had it in the bag, Williams broke the count.

Never one to let a little thing like rules get in his way, Page resorted to a low blow while Williams conveniently misplaced the title belt. An Ego’s Edge later, and Williams, despite every fiber of his being wanting to do otherwise, counted the fall. Page celebrated like a man who just got away with a crime, which, let’s face it, he kind of did.

As if things weren’t complicated enough, Pete Dunne made a surprise appearance at ringside, blindsiding Williams and setting the stage for their showdown on WWE NXT this Tuesday. Because, apparently, there’s no rest for the weary or for anyone else in this never-ending drama.
