While Ripley was battling it out with Liv Morgan, Matthews took to X (formerly Twitter) and humorously pleaded with AEW boss Tony Khan: “TK can I help Mami real quick?” The shout-out was a playful nudge at getting clearance to swoop in and save his wife from Morgan and her new beau, Dominik Mysterio. WWE’s Cathy Kelley jumped into the Twitter fray, suggesting that Khan likely gave a thumbs-down to the cross-promotion rescue mission.
Ripley, known as Dominik’s “Mami” for nearly two and a half years, saw their storyline romance crumble, shaking up the Judgment Day faction like a poorly executed chokeslam. Dominik’s betrayal didn’t just break hearts but also seemed to jinx Damian Priest, who lost the World Heavyweight Championship later that night thanks to Finn Balor’s betrayal. Dominik, who had previously flubbed his way into helping Morgan win against Becky Lynch, made his true allegiance crystal clear with a victory kiss post-match.
Ripley and Matthews, who tied the knot in June, have been a power couple since 2022. Matthews, a House of Black member and former AEW World Trios Champion, seems keen to mix business with a bit of marital heroics.
