Ladies and gentlemen, wrestling fans and title chasers alike, gather ’round for a tale of records, respect, and a whole lot of gold. As John Cena embarks on his WWE retirement tour, the wrestling world is buzzing with speculation. Will Cena clinch one last world championship, breaking his tie with the legendary Ric Flair? Both titans of the ring currently sit at 16 world titles each, but a 17th would crown Cena the undisputed champion of champions.
Flair, the “Nature Boy” himself, has recently chimed in on this matter during an episode of “Busted Open Radio,” expressing nothing but support for Cena. “I think so much, personally, of John Cena,” Flair said. “If they do it with John, I have no problem. I’d be the first one to hit the ring and shake his hand.”
And it’s not just Cena who has Flair’s blessing. Flair is equally impressed with Randy Orton, who boasts 14 world titles and has made an incredible comeback after an injury last year. “Another guy, in my eyes, that would deserve to be the world champion and break that record is Randy Orton,” Flair noted. “To be on top for 20 years, like John and Randy have, that’s a long time to be on top.”
But, as with all epic wrestling narratives, there’s a twist. WWE creative head Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s preferences could play a crucial role in this storyline. Given Triple H’s admiration for Flair and his career, Flair speculates that this might hinder Cena’s chances of winning his 17th world title. “He was such a fan of mine,” Flair mused. “I don’t think he wants to pull the trigger on [Cena].”
Despite all the speculation, Flair’s love for wrestling shines through. “I just love wrestling,” he said, eagerly anticipating whatever direction WWE decides to take. Yet, in a plot twist worthy of a WrestleMania main event, Flair’s ultimate choice to break the world title record is his daughter, Charlotte Flair. “I think it would be the biggest thing that could ever happen,” he said. “I told her one time… she didn’t like the comparison. I said, ‘You’d be as famous as Serena Williams if you broke that record.'”
Charlotte, currently a 14-time world champion, is recovering from ACL, MCL, and meniscus injuries but is poised to potentially surpass her father’s record in the future. It might take time, but the Flair legacy could very well continue to reign supreme.
