Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for some sensational news! The third annual Forbidden Door pay-per-view is happening this Sunday, and it’s set to make history as the first AEW PPV to feature four women’s matches on the card. Yes, you heard that right—four incredible women’s matches! AEW CEO Tony Khan couldn’t contain his excitement during a recent media call, where he spilled the beans on the epic collaboration with STARDOM to bring top-tier women’s talent to the event.
“We’re excited about it,” Khan enthused. “Talking about the STARDOM collaboration, I am so excited… to have the team of Statlander and Momo versus the team of Willow Nightingale and Tam Nakano. I think that’s going to be tremendous. We’ve seen Willow go to STARDOM and defend the TBS title. Tam Nakano and Willow, they’ve been opponents, they’ve been friends. I think that’s going to be a really exciting tag match.”
Khan’s excitement didn’t stop there. He’s also fired up for the two women’s championship matches on the main card. First, we have the AEW Women’s World Championship showdown between “Timeless” Toni Storm and STARDOM’s Mina Shirakawa. Khan couldn’t resist a cheeky pun while praising Shirakawa, saying, “I’ve spent a lot of time, by design… talking about the AEW Women’s World Championship match with ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm taking on Mina Shirakawa, who I think has taken our show by storm, pun intended.”
Then there’s the highly anticipated title-for-title match between TBS Champion Mercedes Moné and NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer. “And then to have the TBS Championship on the line, in a title-for-title… I think that’s such a great match, and a great situation between multiple companies being involved there, and all the inter-promotional implications… We’ve got some really tight matches on the card.”
As if that’s not enough to get you buzzing, the card also includes Saraya taking on Mariah May in a women’s Owen Hart Cup quarterfinal match. This event is shaping up to be a monumental night for women’s wrestling, with talent from AEW, STARDOM, and NJPW coming together for some truly unforgettable matches.
