AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone has been making waves since her debut on the “Big Business” edition of “AEW Dynamite” in March. Solidifying herself as one of AEW’s most prominent female performers, Mone is enthusiastic about creating many more unforgettable moments with the promotion. During a recent interview on WFAN, Mone opened up about why she’s having a blast in AEW compared to her time in WWE.
“I love being part of AEW because there’s just so many doors of opportunity for me. Not just in wrestling but outside of wrestling,” Mone shared, her excitement palpable. Stepping into the world of acting, she made her debut as a cast member on the Disney+ show “The Mandalorian.” However, making that transition while with WWE was, in her words, like “pulling teeth.”
“That’s definitely a big reason why I came to AEW. Even doing The Mandalorian was pulling teeth with the WWE to even try to get time off to film that show,” Mone said, highlighting the stark difference between the two companies.
In AEW, the landscape is more accommodating. AEW President Tony Khan has already assured Mone that if she needs time off or even his private jet for non-wrestling appearances, he’s got her covered. This flexibility and support were major factors in her decision to join AEW. Another pivotal moment was her trip to All In London in 2023.
“Seeing how 80,000 fans, and it wasn’t WrestleMania, it was AEW All In, I was like, ‘This is where I want to be. I want to be here, and this company just feels so aligned with my soul,'” Mone explained, her passion for AEW evident.
It’s clear that for Mercedes Mone, AEW offers the freedom and opportunities she’s been craving, both inside and outside the wrestling ring.
