Beloved AEW commentator Jim Ross recently faced another health scare, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Ross provided an update after being admitted to the hospital overnight due to breathing problems linked to Influenza A. Despite concerns about his ability to travel, Ross announced on X that he is out of the hospital and en route to New York for the AEW and NJPW’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 30. “Flying to NYC Saturday for #ForbiddenDoor. Wouldn’t miss it @AEW,” he wrote.
Ross’s health troubles caused him to miss AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view in May, where he was hospitalized with raised heart enzymes and the flu. Despite these setbacks, Ross remains enthusiastic about Forbidden Door’s main event featuring Swerve Strickland versus Will Ospreay for the AEW World Championship, predicting an excellent match between the two competitors.
Ross’s recent hospital visits add to a series of health issues he’s faced over the years. Diagnosed with skin cancer in 2021, Ross underwent radiation treatment before returning to commentary. In 2022, he stepped back from full-time commentary to continue treatment and had hip surgery to remove more cancerous cells in early 2024. Despite these challenges, Ross has made sporadic appearances at AEW pay-per-views this year, demonstrating his resilience and dedication to the sport.
