Ladies and gentlemen, wrestling aficionados, and lovers of high-flying drama, gather around! AEW and NJPW are about to kick down the Forbidden Door for the third time, and this time, the excitement is reaching new heights as we head to the Big Apple on June 30. But the latest scoop from Tony Khan has us dreaming of even grander stages.

In a media call that’s hotter than a superkick to the face, AEW’s head honcho, Tony Khan, didn’t just tease us with the usual hype. Oh no, he went full throttle, hinting at a potential international escapade for Forbidden Door, beyond the familiar shores of North America. Hold onto your kimonos, folks, because Japan might just be the next destination!

“We’ve taken it international so far to Toronto, but potentially, could we expand out of the continent? I do think so,” Khan said with the kind of confidence that makes you think he’s got a secret wrestling ring on a private island somewhere. “It’s interesting with the idea of Forbidden Door in Japan. I do think that there’s a great potential to grow the idea, and also as a pay-per-view event, launch other events in Japan in collaboration with New Japan Pro Wrestling outside of the Forbidden Door, which is something I think we’ve really built great excitement, and great business gates for here on the western hemisphere.”

Just picture it: AEW stars lighting up Tokyo Dome, the roar of Japanese fans mixing with the chants of “This is Awesome!” in perfect harmony. Khan’s vision isn’t just a pipe dream; it’s a potential game-changer for the wrestling world.

And let’s not forget the business side of things. The previous Forbidden Door events have been raking in cash faster than a merch table at WrestleMania. Both shows smashed past the $1 Million live gate mark, and Khan is confident the 2024 event will follow suit. “We’re poised to top the $1 Million gate mark for a third straight year,” Khan bragged, likely with dollar signs in his eyes. “Which means every Forbidden Door will have a $1 Million gate, it’s been a great success story. We’re looking to have over 10,000 fans attending at the UBS Arena, it’ll be one of our top shows of the year.”

So, as the countdown to Forbidden Door in New York ticks away, keep your eyes peeled and your passports ready. The wrestling world might be about to get a whole lot bigger.
