Hold onto your luchador masks, wrestling fans, because the latest twist in the Forbidden Door saga is juicier than a high-flying hurricanrana! The AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 card has been heating up with new match announcements, but the bout that’s got everyone buzzing is the trios showdown featuring none other than The Lucha Brothers. Yes, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix are set to light up the Zero-Hour pre-show, teaming up with CMLL legend Mistico to take on Los Ingobernables de Japon’s Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji, and Titan.

Why the buzz, you ask? Well, until recently, it was widely believed that Penta, Fenix, and other luchadores couldn’t compete at Forbidden Door due to their ties with AAA, the fierce rival of CMLL, which has a cozy relationship with NJPW. But thanks to some backstage maneuvering and a little bit of lucha magic, the impossible has become reality.

Dave Meltzer, the wrestling world’s go-to oracle, shed some light on this intriguing development in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. According to Meltzer, the key to this surprising turn of events lies in the Lucha Brothers’ prolonged absence from AAA. Fenix hasn’t wrestled for AAA since December 2022, and while Penta did show up at some AAA-co-promoted events as late as April 2024, his last solo AAA appearance was in December 2023.

Apparently, part of the deal to get Penta on the Forbidden Door card involves him not working for AAA moving forward. This is a significant shift, as AAA is set to lose one of its marquee stars, thanks to Penta’s commitments with AEW. This not only allows him to compete at Forbidden Door but also opens the door (pun intended) to potential appearances at Arena Mexico later this year – a move that’s expected but not yet confirmed.

So, what does this mean for wrestling fans? More dream matches, more high-flying action, and more reasons to keep your eyes glued to the ring. With Penta and Fenix now free to strut their stuff at Forbidden Door, the stage is set for one of the most electrifying pre-shows in recent memory.
