Well, until recently, it was widely believed that Penta, Fenix, and other luchadores couldn’t compete at Forbidden Door due to their ties with AAA, the fierce rival of CMLL, which has a cozy relationship with NJPW. According to Meltzer, the key to this surprising turn of events lies in the Lucha Brothers’ prolonged absence from AAA. Fenix hasn’t wrestled for AAA since December 2022, and while Penta did show up at some AAA-co-promoted events as late as April 2024, his last solo AAA appearance was in December 2023.
Apparently, part of the deal to get Penta on the Forbidden Door card involves him not working for AAA moving forward. This is a significant shift, as AAA is set to lose one of its marquee stars, thanks to Penta’s commitments with AEW. This not only allows him to compete at Forbidden Door but also opens the door (pun intended) to potential appearances at Arena Mexico later this year – a move that’s expected but not yet confirmed.
