Oh, folks, we’ve got a wrestling debacle on our hands! The legendary Ultimo Guerrero made his AEW debut on the June 22 episode of “Collision” against Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Championship, but it wasn’t exactly a five-star performance. Thanks to our pals at Luchablog, we’ve got the juicy backstage scoop on why Guerrero’s debut turned into a mask-muddled mess.

The Mask Mix-Up

Picture this: Ultimo Guerrero, a seasoned wrestling legend, steps into the ring only to discover he has to wrestle with a mask he wasn’t expecting to wear. Yup, you heard that right! According to the report, Tony Khan, in a nostalgic throwback, wanted Guerrero to don a mask just like in his CMLL glory days. Guerrero, however, hadn’t rocked a mask in nearly a decade. So, he ended up with a mask that fit about as well as a square peg in a round hole.

The ill-fitting mask meant Guerrero had to scrap several planned spots to avoid a wardrobe malfunction. Despite his best efforts, the mask ultimately came off after Okada’s Rainmaker, adding insult to injury.

Why the Mask?

Speculation abounds as to why Khan requested the masked appearance. Some say it’s because Khan is a die-hard CMLL fan and wanted to see Guerrero in his classic look. Others suggest it was a simple graphics department goof-up, with someone using an old masked photo of Guerrero, leading to a last-minute scramble.

Future Prospects

Despite the masked mishap, there’s still hope for Guerrero in AEW. With AEW’s ongoing collaboration with CMLL, another appearance could be in the cards. But for now, let’s just say Guerrero’s debut was one of those “bad day at the office” moments we can all relate to.
