Back in the day, specifically 2018, Roman Reigns dropped a bombshell on us – he was going toe-to-toe with leukemia, stepping away from his throne as WWE Universal Champion. Fast forward to 2019, he bounced back with gusto, announcing his leukemia had hit the pause button, and since then, he’s been ruling the WWE universe, clinching the Undisputed WWE Universal title. Despite leukemia being a stubborn opponent that refuses to tap out, Reigns keeps on fighting the good fight.
After dazzling fans with a victory at WrestleMania 40 Night 1, defeating Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins with none other than The Rock in his corner, Reigns shared some news on his ongoing battle.
“I am still on oral chemotherapy. It’s a medication I will have to remain on my entire life, most likely,” he confessed during the post-show press conference. “That’s a part of my personal battle. Thank God, I’m still able to perform. I think anybody in my position would say health is wealth, and as long as I can continue to perform, then you know that is at bay. We’re good, still in remission, but it is something that is still a part of my life.”
Roman’s face-off with leukemia wasn’t his debut; the disease first ambushed him at 22. Reflecting on his first diagnosis, Reigns described it as a knockout punch, especially since it coincided with his stint at the Minnesota Vikings NFL franchise during his free agency rookie camp. The Vikings showed him the door a month post-diagnosis, a challenging period as he and his wife were on the brink of welcoming their first child.
